Conscious Living

The Globe and Mail business section reported on a new technology that was being developed that would allow for perfect security for your credit card number on the internet.

It was based on a theory of particle physics that once two subatomic particles had made contact in some way, then from then on, a change in one of the particles immediately created the same change in the other, even when they were separated by vast distances along the fibre optic cable.

I love the way the Globe and Mail straightforwardly reports some of the most miraculous pieces of news and reduces it to the level of just one more instance where science can and should serves commerce. I prefer the fresh look at this information provided for us by Nancy Napier in Sacred Practices for Conscious Living,

"These results, now known as Bell's Theorem, provide powerful evidence for some kind of oneness or shared information field that exists between seemingly separate entities. It may be that we humans, as individuals, are connected by these same kinds of non-local realities.....It suggests that we have the means for creating change in ways that transcend the confines of cause and effect relationships -- that the state of the world may not be dependent on what takes place in time and space but rather on whatever new possibilities we generate collectively in the non-local realms of shared information and instantaneous change."

Weaving together psychology, spirituality and science, Napier maintains that there is a dynamic creative interplay between seen and unseen dimensions of reality, and that in that context we are co-creators of our experience. She has done a great job here, with lots of exercises and mediations. Napier distills the world's great wisdom traditions into a practical treasure chest of meditations and methods for living with joy, compassion, creativity, and an awareness of the sacred. ($32.99.)

The Big Lie is that humans are powerless in the face of the global economy -- powerless in the face of the common sense revolution. I don't think so. Yet the "create your own reality" scheme that the new age made popular can result in cold hearted excuses for greed and self blame. Here are some more authors writing from the perspective that we as humans do co-create our world, but recognize that participation with unseen forces of the universe is a sacred act. One that demands thoughtfulness and consciousness.
