The Universe is a Green Dragon: A Cosmic Creation Story
Communicating his ideas in the form of a classical dialogue, cosmologist Brian Swimme crafts a fascinating exploration into the creativity suffusing the universe. His explication of the fundamental powers of the cosmos is mystical and ecstatic; it shocks the reader into a physiological, explosive awareness of the stuff of being. Most significantly, Dr. Swimme succeeds in articulating the need to activate one’s own creative powers. He writes, “If humans committed themselves to their deepest allurements with the same devotion that stars bring to their own activation of power, the Earth would enter a new era of well-being.”
“Seldom, if ever, within the scientific tradition, has the excitement of the universe been expressed in such memorable phrasing.” – Thomas Berry, Creation magazine
“The new scientific story of the universe’s origin in the ‘Big Bang’ has been told in popular terms before, but never like this. [It succeeds] in evoking a sense of wonder about the story’s music, its poetry, its meaning in everyday life.” – Harold Gilliam, San Francisco Chronicle
“ … a daring attempt to transform the reader from a passive, detached consumer of information into an active, awake participant in the cosmic evolutionary process.” – Yoga Journal
Brian Swimme, PhD, a specialist in mathematical cosmology, was educated at Santa Clara University and the University of Oregon. At the present time, he is the director of the Center for the Story of the Universe, a research affiliate of the California Institute of Integral Studies, in San Francisco.
